6 Months!

This last month has been a whirlwind with so much going on.  It seems that time is flying by and Bella is growing right before our very eyes! How in the world has an entire half of a year gone by already!?!?  If you know a secret to slowing down time, let me know!

Today I looked at her and thought, "Wow, she really isn't a baby anymore is she!?"  And yes, she is still a baby, but not in the newborn, helpless, tiny little baby way.  She is growing into a little lady with a definite personality, and we are growing to love her more and more every day!

Happy 6 Months Isabella Rae!

6 Month Highlights
-You got your second set of shots this month, and took them like a champ.  The first poke you cried for maybe 2 seconds, and then after the second poke you cried for about 6 seconds, but mostly you were looking at me like "why did you let them do that again!?" Once daddy picked you up and gave you Moo Cow, you were fine.  And this time you were not nearly as irritable and miserable the rest of the day as last time (probably b/c we were more proactive with the Tylenol this time!).

Cute little happy naked baby...with no idea what she is waiting on!

2 more badges of courage to be added to the scrapbook, both in sparkles!  Daddy loves consoling you!
-You got to meet your cousin when she was 6 days old!  You weren't entirely thrilled with her but we know that will change!

These 2 couldn't be more spitting images of their fathers!
-You rolled from your back to your belly for the first time, and then promptly right onto your back. You really do hate being on your tummy!  You were playing on your play mat and really wanted to get the far toy...you swung that leg a little too aggressively, but it was so cute to watch!
Of course I never have the camera phone on me when it actually happens, but this is the general movement that gets her onto the belly. Swing those legs girl!
-You graduated from the pack-n-play and slept in your crib (yes, a real crib!) for the first time on November 28th (24 weeks). I'm pretty sure you loved the mattress because you slept great (for you!) that night!
The morning after your first night in the crib...I think it's safe to say you loved it!
-You started sitting on your own over the past several weeks. At 25 weeks, you sat for 5 to 10 seconds on your own before you wobbled over.  At 26 weeks, you have a bit more stability and are tripod sitting to hold yourself up longer.
With the boppy, she can sit and play for a long time!
-You are getting better at taking out and putting in your Moo Cow...thank goodness! Frequently you can't get the paci part in your mouth, but are still happy when you can get in his tail : )
One day I heard you fussing at nap and you had taken out your paci. Two minutes later you stopped, and I looked at the monitor to find you had put it back in, and put Moo Cow on your face : )

-On the day you turned 6 months, you had your first tastes of solid food. Well, at least we tried to give you your first tastes. You wanted nothing to do with it!  As soon as the spoon came towards your mouth you turned your head, grimaced, and ultimately cried when I tried putting some on your lips.  Apparently avacado wasn't your thing!
It initially looked promising...

But no! Oh well...tomorrow we try again!
Sleeping: Sleep definitely improved over this last month, until last week and we started to back slide again.  That being said, we aren't back to waking up every single hour every single night...and good thing, b/c I am not sure I could have taken that anymore!  Bella goes to bed around 6:30 pm and sleeps until about 6 am, usually waking up several times a night, but now only needing us to replace the paci about once or twice.  We did a gradual cry it out method once we moved into the new house when she was 22 weeks, which consisted of letting her cry for 5 minutes before going in to replace the paci for about 3 nights.  Then every 3 nights or so we would increase the cry time by 5 minutes.  We got to 20 minutes and she really figured it out after that and the next night slept from 6:30 pm until 5:10am!!

This last week she really didn't do well with sleep, waking up about 6-8 times a night, and needing rocking, paci and who knows what to get back to sleep. Hoping that this next month shows some long lasting improvement!

In terms of naps, we are getting more into the groove of the morning nap which is generally from 10 to 11:30 or noon when we are lucky. Then usually there is an afternoon nap lasting about an hour, but the start time could be 1, 2 or 3pm.  Just depends on her mood!

Breastfeeding: Oh, such a love/hate relationship I have with breastfeeding. I love being able to give my baby a perfect meal 5 times a day.  But it is not easy!  This month we have had to up our breastfeeding game b/c Bella decreased to the 5th percentile in weight again.  I am taking Fenugreek 3x/day, drinking mothers milk tea (yuck!), and pumping after 2 or 3 feeds and an additional pump before bedtime. We are also trying to feed her at the breast, and then offer a bottle of the pumped milk to see if she will take additional volume. So far, she is generally not all that interested in more volume. She has no problem with the bottle, just doesn't want to take more than 3-4 oz at a time most feeds. The other issue she has is that she eats quickly with the let down, then gets frustrated once let down is over. Rather than work to get the hindmilk, she would rather just stop.  We shall see where her weight goes in a few weeks. Her eating schedule is pretty consistent though- 5 feeds a day usually at 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm and 6pm, and it takes about 10-20 minutes, now eating on both sides twice to make sure she really is getting a good amount of the hind milk.

5 Months!

**You know, I try my best to get these monthly posts done as they occur so that the posting can be closer to where Bella is at, rather than the next month.  But I guess with having a newborn (who is not so newborn-ish anymore!), moving across the country, then moving a second time, and having a niece all in 5 months makes for a busy lifeI keep telling myself eventually life will slow down.  And it may, eventually.  But it may not. So with that I will embrace the time I have with Isabella, and document those precious times as I can, when I can.  Without further ado- here is the 5 month update!

Isabella Rae- you are truly a joy in our lives. Each month just keeps getting better and better with you. I can't believe how fast you are growing up, and we cherish each day we get to spend together!  You truly are our sunshine!

Happy 5 Months Isabella Rae!!

5 Month Highlights:
-You have become so much more interactive this month. We LOVE to make you smile, and although at times you can be quite serious, you ultimately end up giving us the toothless grin!
You love your caterpillar toy!
-The day you turned 19 weeks, your hair just grew overnight! Craziest thing...you went to bed bald, and woke up with a bunch of fuzzy, dark hair! Ever since we feel like it's growing right before our eyes, and tends to be lightening throughout the month!

-Also around 19 weeks you really started to giggle and laugh more, particularly when we fly your around in the air or blow on your tummy.  Love those precious giggles! Along with laughing though, you started to let out this very high pitched, very loud scream when you are happy...and when you are mad. Makes for very confusing times when we can't see your face!
Always waving those hands when you giggle!

-You celebrated your first Halloween this month, complete with a new outfit a day for about an entire week or more before!  You were a ladybug for Halloween and certainly LOVED trick or treating. OK, well you loved being outside taking a walk with the other kids who were actually trick or treating : )
The daddys and their girls

-You had your first sleepover at a friends house.  OK, maybe this pertained more to Mama and Daddy, but we all had a sleepover at the Lefler's house, and you did great!  We love that we can take you anywhere, and you are pretty adaptable.

-You rolled over for the first time from your belly to back the day after you turned 21 weeks! You still haven't rolled over from your back to belly yet, but you are rocking side to side more and more, and getting pretty close. That being said, you don't particularly like laying down and will constantly do a crunch to try and sit up.  And once we have you sitting up, you pull to standing if we are holding onto your hands. You are definitely great at weight bearing!

-We closed on our new house in Suwanee, GA the day you turned 5 months (11/13/14)! We are so excited to watch you grow up in this house...hopefully for a very, very long time!

-And finally, and probably most exciting, the day you turned 5 months, we welcomed your very first cousin on the Allard side, Daniela Leigh (AKA: Dani!). She had a full head of black hair, and a ferocious cry, and we loved her the moment we saw her! We can't wait to take a ton of cute cousin pics in the future, but so far we don't have any of you two together b/c you weren't able to go see her in the hospital.

Sleeping: So the 4 month sleep regression is a real thing. REAL thing, I tell ya!  Bella goes to bed around 6:30 or 7pm and gets up for the morning at about 6 am.  Sounds great right? Oh, but I forgot to mention that she wakes up every 1-2 hours or so during the entire night, and on especially great nights she wakes up every 15 minutes for about 2 hours.  Most times she just needs her pacifier put back in, but about once a night she needs some extra cuddles and rocking.  Makes for some really great, really choppy sleep! Naps have slowly gotten better, particularly over the last 2 weeks. She is actually starting to form a morning nap, and generally will go down some time around 10 am and sleep for anywhere from 1-2 hours. The rest of the day is up in the air. Most days she takes one or two 30 minute naps throughout the afternoon, but some days its no naps, and very rarely will get in one other longer nap.  Your guess is as good as mine!

Breastfeeding: Last month I felt like we were definitely in the swing of things, and this month even more so.  Bella is getting more and more efficient, and her feeds usually last 12-20 minutes. She eats 5 times a day, spaced about 3 hours apart.  Occasionally she gets distracted with feeds and will pull off and look around, but overall she isn't too bad about it. She hasn't needed a night feed in quite some time, which is nice.

Isabella Loves:
Being held...a lot!
Her swing
Playmat
Moo cow wubabub
Caterpillar toy and crinkle book
Baths and showers

Isabella Hates:
Tummy time (I would call this a *dislike* this month, rather than a hate)
Being in her carseat for a long time (although this has gotten MUCH better!)

5 Month Stats:
Weight: 12 lb 2 oz (5th percentile)- we are not sure why she is back down the the 5th percentile so we are going to work on that a bit in this next month
Height: 24.5 in (30th percentile)

-Halloween 10/31/14
