We kept Bella's birthday low key again this year, and I'm so glad that we did. We talked about having a bigger party and inviting some of her friends from her Bible class at church with their families, but ultimately decided that since she's 2 and she still doesn't even understand what a birthday is, we'd just keep it family. So much easier, less stress, and in a lot of ways more fun for us!
We had a Strawberry theme since strawberries are her favorite food lately. We had a cook out after naptime (so she'd be well rested), and had the pool set up for the girls. Unfortunately it was really overcast and almost had a chill in the air, so they didn't swim.
Mmm...strawberry triffle with homemade whipped cream, chocolate covered strawberries, and dark chocolate dipped pretzles. Strawberry lemonade and Strawberry Mint Water to drink!
It didn't matter though b/c the girls enjoyed eating and just playing on the deck in the nice weather.
Bella was fun to watch open presents this year, because she actually understood what she was doing. In keeping with the theme, we got her a Strawberry Shortcake backpack (thank you very much 50 cent garage sale find!) that she absolutely loves and wants to wear on her back on the time. Throw in a ton of stickers and a new pair of "gasses" from Tia & Uncle G, a dress-up necklace and bracelet and a bat/ball from Mimi & Pops (plus $2), and some bath paints and she was in heaven.
Rather than doing a smashcake (or any cake for that matter), Bella got a bowl of strawberries and homemade whipped cream that she loved! I figured if she loves fruit and hasn't had a lot of sugar, why start now!? And it was a big hit!
Great food, fun with the kiddos, and awesome weather to just sit back and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Now THAT'S what I call a 2 year old birthday : )
YUM! Dark chocolate covered strawberries! |
